Security codes for online deregistration

Online deregistration requires three security codes. They are under covered fields and only become visible once you uncover them. Uncovered codes can then only be used for one process.

Registration certificate: 7 characters

The front of registration certificate part I has a covered field, usually a scratch-off layer or a sticker. Underneath is a 7-character code of letters and digits.

Front plate: 3 characters

The round seal sticker on the front plate has a covered field. Underneath is a 3-character code.

Rear plate: 3 characters

The sticker on the rear plate carries another 3-character code. Both sticker codes are required.

Note for stickers with a window

Some registration certificates carry a sticker with a visible 8-digit number in a window. That is the print number, not the security code. The actual code is under the sticker.

Tips for uncovering

  • Only uncover the codes when you really want to deregister.
  • Scratch carefully with a coin, not a knife.
  • Write down the codes or take a photo before entering them.
  • Do not confuse the digit 0 with the letter O.

No code available?

Certificates issued before 2015 often have no covered field. Without codes, deregistration is only possible in person – at any registration office in Germany.
